My name is Esdras Beleza. I’m a software developer from Fortaleza, Brazil, and I'm currently living in Porto, Portugal.
Photography has been a hobby since 2013. My favourite styles are street photography and travel photography (and sometimes I’m not quite sure where is the line between them).
My favourite photographers are Vivian Maier, for her street photography work; Ernst Haas, for his angles and layers; and Saul Leiter, for his composition and colours.
I don’t like to talk about gear, but it has surely influenced my processes. I’ve used mainly mirrorless digital cameras, being a Fuji X user since 2014. I had a X-E1 camera until 2016, when I sold it to buy a X-E2S.
In 2019 my girlfriend Gabriella lent me a Japanese Superheadz toy camera and convinced me to play with film. A few days later I found a really cheap Minolta X-300 in a charity shop near me. In 2020 she gave me a Canon Elan II for my birthday.
I’ve been switching between digital and film and I wouldn’t say I have a preference. My software development work requires me to live in a world of deadlines and quick feedback cycles, so when I play with film and I have to wait days or weeks to see a picture it can be a relief. Some days, though, I want some fast feedback and use my digital camera again.
